1.2008.8.4 - Release

  • No more reliance upon Internet Explorer. Users can authenticate via gAttach! itself or via Internet Explorer 7 or Mozilla Firefox 3;
  • Allow proxy configuration, including proxies that require authentication.
  • Fully working version on x64 platforms.
  • Fully supports HTTPS. This was used for authentication alone in previous versions, but it is now possible to choose to use it for all data exchange.
  • Completely revised the layout of the Options screen.
  • Improved the issue reporting form so that issues can be submitted through the click of a button, rather than copying and pasting.
  • Better reporting of network issues: these appeared as exceptions implying gAttach! is at fault, which was not the case.
  • Better reporting of character set issues (where gAttach! can't find a file due to the filename containing characters that don't exist in the Windows system code page. MAPI doesn't use Unicode!).
  • Modified the software so that its text can be localised. Want gAttach in your language and happy to translate? Get in touch.
  • Fix: gAttach! does absolutely nothing on some computers!
  • Fix: "SMTP:" is not being removed on recipient email addresses when gAttach! is used via MAPI.

  • Refined handling of the "Read Mail" Start Menu option in XP and Vista.

1.2008.7.28 - Beta

  • Firefox 3 integration fully revised. Firefox does not load cookies from its SQLite database on-demand but once when the first instance of Firefox starts. This meant that users still had to log in manually to see a new draft email as the cookies required for authentication were in the database but not in memory. Added a Firefox Extension to mitigate this.
  • Users can now log in via Internet Explorer 7 or Mozilla Firefox 3 or via gAttach!. Some users felt more reassured entering their username and password into a Google web page rather than an application. This change now affords you that opportunity.
  • Now fully supports HTTPS. This was used for authentication alone in previous versions, but it can now be chosen for all data exchange.
  • "SMTP:" was not being removed on recipient email addresses when gAttach! is used via MAPI. This is now fixed.
  • Refined logic for identifying the current user's Firefox Profile folder.
  • Resolved login issue for Israeli users.

  • Fixed the issue where gAttach! did absolutely nothing on some computers. This was due to a missing DLL dependency.
  • Now works on x64 platforms!
  • Now includes proxy configuration, including proxies that require authentication.
  • Completely revised the layout of the Options screen.
  • Typo fixed on Options screen ("verison" now reads "version").
  • XP computers with IE6 installed (even if not the default browser) could not use gAttach! due to "navigation canceled" issues. This issue should now be gone as the dependence upon Internet Explorer no longer exists.
